Position Overview
  • We are seeking a qualified lawyer to join our client’s team as a Regulatory and Licensing Counsel. You will report to the Legal Director of Regulatory and Licensing or Senior Counsel and will be instrumental in supporting their global regulatory and licensing efforts.

What You’ll Do
  • Collaborate with a team of regulatory and licensing lawyers to oversee ongoing licensing and financial regulatory issues globally.
  • Identify and address regulatory risks within the organization, implementing strategies to mitigate them.
  • Manage relationships with external law firms, including their engagement, work review, fee approvals, and case management to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Support the legal team with regulatory and licensing matters by providing guidance on crypto/financial licensing, product launches (including terms and conditions), regulatory compliance, and risk assessments.
  • Represent the legal team to internal stakeholders, delivering practical and commercially viable advice while managing expectations throughout the process.
  • Assist the Compliance team in maintaining regulatory adherence, including performing legal analyses on sanctions, AML, and other risks.
  • Draft and review licensing documents, responses to investigations, and marketing materials while offering regulatory insights on commercial matters.
  • Conduct training sessions to improve legal awareness across the organization regarding effective regulatory risk management.
What You’ll Need
  • Qualifications: A qualified lawyer with 3-5 years of experience in financial regulation.
  • Experience: A background in a reputable global law firm (common law jurisdiction) and a respected in-house organization is essential. Previous experience in a regulatory body is highly regarded.
  • Location: Candidates must be based in the APAC time zone, preferably in Hong Kong or Singapore.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of financial products (including spot trading, copy trading, margins, derivatives, and options) and commercial transactions is crucial.
  • Track Record: Demonstrated experience with licensing and regulatory issues for both traditional financial institutions and cryptocurrency firms, including interactions with regulatory bodies such as the FCA, VARA, AMF, MAS, HK SFC, and others.
  • Policy Awareness: Current knowledge of policies and regulations from standard-setting organizations, including IOSCO, the European Union, and central banks.
  • Startup Experience: Preferred experience in startup environments, with a proven ability to manage complex legal matters in fast-paced settings.
  • Regulatory Expertise: Experience with regulatory investigations, requests for information, sanctions compliance, AML regulations, and corporate governance is highly valued.
  • Independence: Ability to work autonomously and make informed decisions while effectively managing complex projects.
  • Skills: Exceptional legal drafting and interpretation skills, with strong proficiency in written and spoken English. Fluency in Mandarin is highly preferred for engaging with regional markets.
